An air quality advisory for smoke has been extended through Sep. 12, for parts of Marin, western Napa and Sonoma counties, officials with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District said on Sep. 12.
Those areas may experience worsened air quality as strong winds could push smoke eastward from the Irving Fire in west Marin County.
Though fine particulate concentrations may rise and visibility may be impaired, the air district is not expecting levels to surpass federal air quality health standards for the region. Air quality is expected to remain in the moderate range and the district is not issuing a Spare the Air alert.
Air district officials recommend that if residents smell smoke, they stay inside with windows and doors closed, if possible, and set air conditioning units and car ventilation systems to re-circulate to prevent outside air from coming inside.
