Air Force One, the airplane used to fly the president, made an aborted landing attempt with President Barack Obama aboard at the Bradley International Airport in Connecticut on Wednesday. The pilot tried again and landed safely.

It was merely a routine maneuver, in which the pilot was proceeding to land, but due to difficult weather conditions, circled the plane around the runway before trying again and landing without problems. This move is also called a “go around.”

The weather problems consisted of heavy clouds and light drizzles in Connecticut, where President Obama was headed to deliver the United States Coast Guard Academy’s commencement address in New London.

Nick Shapiro, White House spokesman, stated that there was no risk to the president at any time. The New York Times reported that he said that the poor visibility forced the pilot to make the go around. Reporters who were also on the plane even said that they were unaware of the landing maneuver.

First Lady Michelle Obama had a plane scare a few weeks ago. A jet she was on abandoned its landing in order to avoid being too close to a military cargo jet. The Boeing 737 was ordered to make turns in order to distance itself as it approached the Air Force Base in Maryland. Similarly, the Federal Aviation Administration stated that “The aircraft was never in any danger.” However, later reports said that Obama’s plane had been dangerously near the cargo jet, and the wake from the cargo jet could have caused her plane to crash.
