Adam Poole, an avowed duck hunter in Minnesota, is dead after being shot by his friend on a duck-hunting trip.

Poole, 23, stood up in the boat at the same time as his hunting partner did.

“They both stood up in the boat in an effort to shoot at a duck,” according to a statement from the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office. “The hunting partner lost his balance, and the shotgun he was carrying discharged. Poole was struck in the head and died from his injuries.”

Officials are treating the death as an accident.

Local news agency Park Rapids Enterprise reported that the pair were hunting on Fourth Crow Wing Lake in Hubbard County.

Poole was dead by the time emergency responders reached him.

Poole was recently married to his wife Allison, and is described as an avid outdoorsman who love to hunt and fish.

The name of the hunting companion isn’t being released.

Friends and family have set up a Facebook page in memory of Poole.
