An active shooter situation has unfolded at a UPS facility in Gloucester County, New Jersey, according to local news reports on Jan. 14.
The building is located on Birch Creek Road, but police have since blocked off roads in the area.
The warehouse is located in an industrial park.
A Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman told the news outlet that the “situation is contained,” without elaborating.
“We have an active incident in place,” chief of staff Tom Gilbert also said. “Tactical elements were deployed.”
Law enforcement officials are now “fact-gathering,” Gilbert said, but he didn’t elaborate.
Fox29 reported that the incident started at around 9:20 a.m. local time.
UPS issued a statement about the matter, NJ.com reported.
“UPS is working with law enforcement as they respond to an active shooter situation at one of the company’s supply chain processing facilities in Logan Township, New Jersey,“ the firm said, ”We cannot provide information about the identity of people involved at this time.”
The Swedesboro-Woolwich School District also issued a comment to the Courier-Post that it “is aware that there is an active police situation in Logan Township. Please be assured that our central office administration are in constant communication with our local police department, and we are also fortunate to have a Woolwich Police Officer (School Resource Officer) on site each day.”
“The students and staff in SWSD are all safe and our administration is on alert,“ the statement said. ”Thank you for your continued support.”
Other details about the incident are not clear.
New Jersey State Police also wrote that it is responding to the scene.
