Pedro Perez, the man who replaced former New York State Police Superintendent Harry Corbitt, resigned just six days into taking office, citing unease among police unions.

Corbitt resigned last Wednesday amidst a scandal involving Gov. David Paterson, who allegedly used state police to pressure a woman into dropping abuse charges against his top aide. Perez said he didn’t resign due to the scandal but left because he didn’t want to be an “obstacle” for the state police.

He said via a NY1 report that a reason for his departure was “the labor unions’ perception of my ability to lead the agency.”
