The South China Sharks lost their first match of the series against the Macau Aces in the CIHL at Mega Ice last Saturday Nov 16.

The Aces were in top form pressuring the Sharks right from the start, but it was not until the 10th minute of the first period that Darren Winia put the Aces into the lead and it was still 1-0 at the end of the first period.

Both teams scored two goals in the second period. Anthony Devoltz got the Sharks back on even terms after five minutes of period two (1-all), but with three goals in the last minute of the period – two for the Aces by Christian Long and Alvin Sham; and one by Jordan So for the Sharks leaving the Aces in the lead 3-2.

The third period was just as intense and with goals by Donald Chow and Justin Cheung for the Sharks to edge ahead 4-3 it looked like another win for the Sharks.

But Darren Winia pushed the game into overtime with an equaliser 15 seconds from the end of full time.

Christian Long scored the winner for the Aces in 1:55 into the sudden death 3:0 minute overtime period to win the game 5-4 and take the two points making it a memorable win for the Macau Aces. The Sharks picked up one point for tying the match at the end of normal time.

Tycoons vs Warriors

The match between Hong Kong Tycoons and Kowloon Warriors was very even in the first two periods, in which both teams scored in each session leaving the match 2-all.

In the third period the Tycoons edged ahead with a goal by Brennan Sonne early in the session. Then Tycoons scored again through Kory Falite in the 4th minute.

In response the Warriors increasingly threw players into attack leaving them vulnerable and Brennan Sonne slotted home two more goals completing his hat-trick.
