Macau Aces pushed further ahead in the China Ice Hockey League (CIHL) at Mega Ice on Saturday Jan 11 with a win against South China Sharks, while Kowloon Warriors held back the Hong Kong Tycoons.

South China Sharks held off their Macau Aces attackers for the first two periods when the score was still 0-all. But in Period 3 Josef Natour put the Aces into the lead after just 13 seconds had clicked off the clock and added a second goal at the half-way point. This threw increased pressure onto the Sharks to push more players forward in an effort to score. But the Macau Aces goalie, Korbinian Lutz, was in great form making 46 saves to keep a clean sheet and allow the Aces to notch up another win.

Natour completed his hat-trick into an open net at the end of the match, when the Sharks were in all-out attack mode, giving the Aces victory by 3-0.

Tycoons vs Warriors

The match between The Hong Kong Tycoons and bottom of the table Kowloon Warriors was another action-packed match. Andy Ramsay and Gregory Smyth scored for the Kowloon Warriors and Brennan Sonne and Andrew Alari got on the score sheet for the Hong Kong Tycoons leaving the Period 1 score at 2-all.

Lots of attacking in the second period was unsuccessful for either team, but the Tycoons scored with a second goal for Sonne 1-minute into Period 3. This looked like it might be sufficient to win the match with Tycoon’s goalie Emerson Keung blocking the Warriors path, but Smyth brought up the equaliser to make the score 3-all 9-minutes into the session and that was the way it stayed.

Devin Welsh scored in overtime, to the excitement of the Warriors team and supporters, to win 4-3.
