The gun used in the 2012 double murder that former New England Patriots player has been linked to has been found in Springfield.

The gun was found in after a car crash on June 21 on I-91. Police officers took inventory of the car of Jailene Diaz-Ramos, and found a .38 caliber Smith and Western revolver in a black briefcase in the trunk.

Diaz-Ramos told police that the gun belonged to a friend she called “Chicago,” and that she drove the friend and his friends to work, and that they are football players, according to WSHM-TV.

She said they wanted to leave the gun in the trunk so they wouldn’t have to bring it into work.

Police are continuing to investigate Hernandez’s connection to the murders of two men outside a Boston bar in 2012. Hernandez is currently in jail.
