“Madonna and Child,” the iconic painting by Filippino Lippi, one of the greatest artists of 15th-century Florence, will be on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from Jan. 15 to April 25 in the European Painting galleries on the second floor. The oil and gold painting, which Lippi produced for his patron Filippo Strozzi’s villa, now takes on a fresher look after a test cleaning in late 2010 revealed a beautifully preserved and richly colored work of art beneath a thick, discolored varnish.
