On Wednesday Prime Minister Stephen Harper joined Governor General David Johnston to present Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with a life-sized painting of herself at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in London.

“This tribute honours Her Majesty’s extraordinary 60-year reign as our Head of State and is part of a Canadian tradition of artwork reflecting our culture and heritage,” said Harper. It is the third such painting the government has commissioned during the Queen’s reign.

The painting will be displayed at Canada House in London from June 8-14, before returning to Canada to be hung in Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
