The world’s largest video-streaming website YouTube Inc.’s Chief Executive Officer Chad Hurley has announced that he will be moving into an advisory role after running the company since it was set up in February 2005.

As one of the three original founders of YouTube, he expressed the move has been a work in progress.

“For the past two years, I’ve taken on more of an advisory role at YouTube as Salar Kamangar has led the company’s day-to-day operations,” according to a company statement. YouTube is wholly owned by Google Inc.

The company has confirmed that the new CEO will be Salar Kamangar, who is the current vice president of product management. He has had a high profile with the company assuming key responsibilities of the popular online video company. Despite little public information regarding YouTube’s profitability, senior executives have provided anecdotal comments about the company being in the black.

The media giant shows more than 2 billion clips a day, has been running from strength to strength with more advertisements and business collaborative efforts being established with Kamangar’s influence. There were legal implications that surfaced with accusations of breaches of copyright according to some television and movie studios. However since the contentious material has been debated, YouTube has made an effort to curb copyrighted videos, which are not authorized.

“We were lucky enough to find Salar, who was one of the founders of [Google] AdWords. He is responsible for the whole thing,” said Hurley. “For me, he was someone who was going to be able to drive the business.”

Since the global search engine, Google’s acquisition of YouTube in 2006 for $1.76 billion, the other two cofounders Steve Chen and Jawed Karim had opted to alternative roles.

Although the duration of Hurley’s contract spanned only 18 months after the takeover, he opted to extend his stay. In an interview with the Financial Times earlier in the year, he admitted that “I’ve definitely stayed a lot longer than I would ever have expected, and probably a lot longer than anyone else would have expected.”
