9/11 Health Bill May Survive

[xtypo_dropcap]F[/xtypo_dropcap]ollowing its defeat in the U.S. Senate last week, HR 847 James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010, also called the 9/11 Health Bill or the Zadroga Act may survive as an addendum to other legislation.

After passing the House, the bill could not get enough votes in the Senate to be debated on the floor. The bill's sponsor, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), joined 58 other members of Congress in asking Speaker Nancy Pelosi to add HR 847 to the House version of a different bill that will extend Bush tax cuts.

Both Houses of Congress will likely consider that legislation in the coming days. “Thousands of Americans, from all 50 states, are sick because of 9/11 and they shouldn’t have to wait any longer to get the help they need," said Rep. Maloney in a statement on her website.
