Halloween costumes can be everything and anything. Many people like to dress so that they look scary but they can also be their favourite childhood character. When stuck for ideas, here are some of the costumes which are very popular at Halloween:
Toy Story
The first Toy Story movie was released in 1995 and two sequels have been made since then. If this movie is a childhood favourite, one of the characters from it can be dressed as at Halloween such as Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Mr Potato Head. A mother and her kids could even be Bo Peep and several sheep.
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters is a classic movie. With iconic lines, there are many characters to dress as. Along with the four Ghostbusters, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is another popular costume idea.
Goonies
The tale of a group of friends who try to find hidden pirate treasure has become a childhood classic. Goonies has many characters that are very memorable. Chunk, Mouth, Sloth and Mikey are perfect ideas for Halloween costumes. This retro movie could also inspire a group of friends to all dress as individual characters.
Pirates
One of the most popular Halloween costumes around, people of all ages can dress as pirates. Not only is it perfect for children but also adults, such as their parents. A stag do could dress as pirates and sword fight as they walk from one pub to another. There are many pirate costumes to consider. Along with various characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, such as Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbosa, there are other pirates which someone could dress as i.e. Captain Hook and Smee from Steven Spielberg’s movie Hook.
Superman
Many men love wearing a Superman costume. The 1970’s and 1980’s Superman movies which starred Christopher Reeve inspired a generation of children who believed that a man could fly. There have been other depictions of the Last Son of Krypton such as the TV shows The New Adventures of Superman and Smallville. A fancy dress retailer could have a variety of Superman costumes which someone can wear when trick or treating. Along with a skin tight Superman costume, a padded outfit can also be purchased which enables a father or his son to look just like this superhero.
Gremlins
There have been two Gremlins movies. The most popular Gremlin is Gizmo and there are many others which can be dressed up as at Halloween. A fancy dress retailer can even have a Gremlins bodysuit in their catalogue.
Rainbow
The long-running children’s TV show Rainbow had many puppets which have become cult figures and are fondly remembered by those who grew up watching it. Along with Zippy and George, a Bungle costume is just as popular. If friends want to dress as other characters that appeared in Rainbow, they could be Rod, Jane and Freddy who often sang songs on the show. When a large group of students want to follow a general fancy dress theme, they can each be individual characters from Rainbow.
Star Trek
The original Star Trek TV series featured many iconic characters such as Captain Kirk, Spock and Scotty. Their costumes can be worn at Halloween and those who dress as various crewmembers of the USS Enterprise can pretend that they are on an alien world.
