The Rockefeller Ice Rink opened on Christmas Day, 1936. More than 11 million skaters have glided, or stumbled, across the ice at the center of New York’s iconic holiday hotspot in its 75 years. Celebrities and Olympians often skate at the location. The Zamboni, uniquely configured for the rink, is lifted in and out each season by a crane, and smooths the ice with hot water six times daily. Couples can enjoy their first betrothed moments with an engagement special. For $225, the rink operators play music and clear other skaters from the ice for a special engagement skate.
