A 60-year-old old Texas woman shot and killed a suspected home invader and police are searching for another person.

A woman in Katy, Texas, grabbed her gun when she heard two intruders enter her home before shooting one of them, Harris County sheriff’s detectives said on Monday, according to KHOU.

“Two black male subjects came in through an open garage and then entered the home. Both men were armed with pistols,” Deputy Thomas Gilliland of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office told CoveringKaty.com.

Cathy Hanks, a neighbor, told the station it isn’t surprising the unnamed woman opened fire when someone broke into her home.

“That’s really how we are. That’s just Texas,” Hanks said. “It’s the state of Texas. If you’re going to go into someone’s home, you’re going to get shot,” Hanks said.

Gilliland confirmed that both suspects were armed. Officers found a gun next to the man’s body. The other suspect hopped over a fence and escaped.

The woman was unharmed in the encounter, police said.

“From what we understand, it’s a rental home but there are several people who live in the home. But this morning she was by herself in the house,” Gilliland said, ABC11 reported.

Police are trying to determine if the men targeted the house specifically.

Investigators say it’s too early to know if the woman will be charged.
