$6 bill, $446 tip: An Indianapolis waitress got a $446 tip on a meal from a patron who spent $6 on a meal.

Steak n’ Shake waitress CeCe Bruce told ABC News that she was surprised when she got the order.

“My first reaction was, ‘Miss Jo, I’m not taking your money,’” she said, referring to the customer. “It was crazy.”

“She asked me if she could leave me a ridiculously large tip, but I did not know that it was that large,” said Bruce.

Bruce added that Miss Jo always tips her around 50 percent of the bill.

“I was in shock,’’ Steak ‘n Shake manager Greer Gooley was quoted by TODAY.com as saying. “I was in the back on a food order, and Miss Jo wrote out the bill and then she ran out the door really quick. (Bruce) ran into the parking lot to thank her, and she just told her to take it and then spun off.”

Bruce, a student at Martin University in Indianapolis, said she’ll use the money to pay bills.

Gooley told Fox 10 television that Bruce deserves the money.

“She stays late, comes in early. Whenever we need her, she’s here. So she deserves it more than anyone,” Gooley said. “It just lets servers know that you work hard and it does pay off. There are people out there that [if] you do your job people reward you for it.”
