A 57-year-old Brentwood woman was transported via air ambulance after falling backward down a flight of 12 steps at home in Brentwood on the early morning of Sept. 20, according to East Contra Costa Fire Protection District officials.

Fire crews responded to the home on Iron Club Drive around 12:11 a.m. today, where they found the woman at the bottom of the stairs, according to Battalion Chief Jeff Burris.

Emergency crews requested an air ambulance for the victim, who Burris said was unconscious when they arrived at the scene. She was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with apparent head, neck and possible internal injuries, according to Burris.

Burris said the cause of the fall appears to be accidental.
