Four people lost their lives in gunfire in San Jose and the shooter killed himself as the police tried to engage with him, ending the hours-long standoff on June 24.
According to multiple media reports, the police used an armored tactical vehicle to rescue a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.
“When officers arrived on scene, two adults exited the residence suffering from at least one gunshot wound each,” San Jose police spokeswoman Officer Gina Tepoorten told Mercury News.
The entire street was cleared and SWAT teams surrounded the house. The authorities were trying to engage with the suspect but he killed himself and the standoff ended early Monday morning, according to KRON4.
At about 1:25 a.m. the police were able to enter the house where they found three dead bodies, including that of the suspect.
Several people who escaped the shooting and exited the house and are being questioned by investigators. Eight people living around Habbitts Court were displaced and are being taken care of at the Seven Trees Community Center, according to KRON4.
Police said there are no outstanding suspects and the case is being investigated as a quadruple murder-suicide—the suspect shot the four people before killing himself, reported ABC7.
There was a large presence of police around the shooting area. While most of the media reports say the authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the suspect, the Mercury News reports that he was a Vietnamese man in his 60s. Among those who escaped shooting include his wife and his 17-year-old daughter.
“The (suspect’s) wife confirmed she witnessed her husband shoot her brother and her sister,” a key witness who was one of the first to see the shooting told the responding officers, according to Mercury News.
