A 350-pound blue marlin jumped into a boat off the coast of the Dominican Republic last week, nearly impaling two fishermen.
Fishermen on “The Marlin Darlin” boat were trying to reel in the fish when it jumped onto the boat willingly. The fishermen caught the incident on video, reported the Tampa Bay Times.
The massive fish jumps around five feet into the boat, as the men--who are from Clearwater, Fla.--evade getting hit by it.
Capt. Eddie Wheeler told the paper that he releases any billfish they catch. But the marlin was injured so badly that he gave it to local Dominican fishermen.
“We billfish for the sport of it, not to kill. You have no choice when something like this happens,” boat owner Beecher Jacobsen said, according to the Mirror.
“Everybody was scared there for a minute, and once we realized nobody got hurt and everything was under control, we realized we had a pretty good piece of video,” he added.
According to KXAN-TV, it took the crew members several minutes to get control over the fish as it flopped around on the boat.
