Zakhra Rzayeva was left outside in temperatures of around 23 Fahrenheit (-5 degrees Celcius) after a walk with her teachers. According to Mash News outlet citing unnamed sources in the school, the teachers only remembered that the toddler was still outside a whole two hours after outdoor playtime, reported The Sun.

Zakhra had reportedly frozen to death during that time. Her body was found behind a pile of snow in the playground of the Moscow kindergarten, known as Kindergarten number 2120.

An investigation involving Russia’s Investigative Committee has been launched to determine how the little girl died.

Teachers and staff at the nursery are currently being questions about her death.

The girl’s parents, Rizvan Rzayev and Gulnara Shakhadat, have been too devastated to speak.

“God forbid that any parents have to go through this,” a family friend, Ramil Gadzhiyev, told local media.

Gadzhiyev said the teachers have denied leaving the 3-year-old outside for two hours. The teachers claimed that playtime was 11 a.m. and the children have lunch at noon. Staff who found the little girl failed to revive her.

Many social media users are outraged by what happened to Zakhra.

No further details were given surrounding the child’s death.
