While often, we’re on the lookout for ways to make small rooms seem bigger –what happens when you have a room that’s well…too big?
The good news is that it’s not hard to dress a room so that it’s more cozy and comfortable. Bringing a big room down to size can be fun, and as a bonus –you’ll be able to get away with some nifty design features that you wouldn’t ordinarily be able to in a smaller room.
Here are three simple ways to transform your looming castle into a smaller, more manageable cozy retreat.
Textiles are a simple and certain way to increase the cozy factor in the bedroom. Add a down duvet, or some overstuffed pillows and a throw. Opt for some high-quality curtains, and if you have hardwood floors, bring in a shag rug. An oversized, upholstered headboard can also help a bedroom to feel more cozy and is a great way to make a statement.
Experiment With Colors and Pattern
Soft, light colors can add a fresh, clean look to a room. Look for furniture or accessories in solid, neutral colors like white, ivory, beige, and light gray. These colors complement each other beautifully and allow you to play up the texture in the room with throw pillows and cable knit throws without going overboard. Patterns and prints can also help to increase coziness in a room. Try adding a coverlet and some pillows in complementary patterns for extra coziness.
Vintage or rustic décor can add a certain type of understated elegance to your room, helping to increase the coziness. Consider adding some vintage décor pieces like chests, lamps, or even a sign or two. If your room is more modern, you could try incorporating features that are inspired by vintage design –like this piece of wall art featuring an antique typewriter.
