A student brawl at Hoover High School in Glendale, California, triggered a police response and a lockdown of the campus.

Hoover High and two other schools in the Glendale Unified School District were placed on lockdown on Oct. 3, The Los Angeles Times reported. Sports and after-school activities were canceled for the day after the fight, officials said.

A video posted online shows several students involved in the melee. Officials haven’t determined what sparked the incident.

Students, however, told the LA Times that the fight started over tensions between two different groups on campus. CBS Los Angeles said that one student claimed it was racial tensions that caused it.

“Little fights turned into big fights,” one student said. “Everyone saw, and so everyone started throwing punches.”

There were no significant injuries during the fights. No weapons were involved, CBS LA reported.

Glendale Unified Supt. Winfred Roberson Jr. told the LA Times: “While there was a fight, there were no significant injuries, no stabs … nothing like that.”

Lissette Uribe a family member of a student at Hoover High said they live down the block from the campus.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, what’s going on? Was there a shooting? What happened?’” Lissette Uribe said. “At that moment, nobody knew [what was happening], just that tweet.” She was referring to a police department tweet about the high school disturbance.

Uribe said that her brother was able to text her, saying he would be released in several hours.

Other details about the incident were not provided by police.
