21-Year-Old Rapper Jimmy Wopo Shot, Killed in Pittsburgh

Rapper Jimmy Wopo was killed during a drive-by shooting in Pittsburgh on Monday, police said.

Officials told The Associated Press that Wopo, whose real name was Travon Smart, was shot dead and another man was injured. Someone opened fire on their car in Pittsburgh’s Hill District on Monday.
Wopo was 21. His manager, Taylor Maglin, confirmed his death, saying in a Facebook post, “I lost my brother today and it’s the worst feeling in the world.”

“He was destined for greatness and he wanted the best for his friends, family and community. We lost a great person today, but just know I will do everything in my power to make his memory live on forever. Love you bro #LongLiveWopo,” he added.

He later posted a photo on Instagram with the caption: “I’ll never forget you. Cherished every moment working with you, can’t believe your gone. ‭Always and forever my brother.”

Wopo‭ had several videos on YouTube with more than 1 million views.

His attorney, Owen Seman, told AP that he had spoken with Wopo just moments before he was gunned down.

Pittsburgh rappers Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller mourned his death on social media.

“Rest up bro,” Khalifa wrote. Miller tweeted a broken heart emoji.

The shooting came hours after Florida rapper XXXTentacion was shot and killed in Broward County. XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, died at a hospital after he was leaving a dealership.

In the shooting, he was approached by two suspects, and police said that one of them opened fire, CBS News reported. They described it as a “possible robbery.”
