2014 Toyota Corolla Promises an Even Better Bargain for Buyers

Billed as the “world’s most popular compact sedan,” the 2014 Toyota Corolla has kicked things up yet another notch with bolder design elements, more models, and even better efficiency. Premium materials are used in the interior of the new Corolla, starting with the base model L. Best of all, the price is extremely competitive. The L model with manual transmission has an MSRP of only $16,800.

I was privileged to attend one of the Corolla’s first media driving events last week in San Diego, CA, where car writers and photographers were treated with balmy temperatures and great scenery. The drives started at the Broadway Pier where the vehicles were docked, and included various trips around the city and surrounding areas while testing the stylish new Corolla lineup.

The 2014 Corolla has four grades, the L, LE, S, and the new LE ECO grade.

The L with 4-speed automatic has an MSRP of $17,400, slightly higher than the manual transmission L. Corolla’s L models feature such standard equipment as LED headlamps, Bluetooth connectivity, color-keyed outside door handles, color-keyed outside mirrors, a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, power door locks, and eight air bags.

Stepping up to the LE model more features are added, such as a backup monitor, climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, and Entune Audio for an MSRP of $18,300. This model also offers better fuel economy through its CVTi-S transmission.

The sporty S model, with its bolder stance and feel, has a lower front grille with piano black finish and chrome surround, unique suspension tuning, paddle shifters for seven speeds, sport cluster gauge with TFT meter, piano black instrument panel, and a leather steering wheel cover. The S model will be priced at $19,000.

The LE ECO trim level offers enhanced fuel economy due to a 140-hp Valvematic-equipped engine, improved aerodynamics, and unique CVTi-S tuning, with an MSRP of $18,700 and EPA rating of 42 mpg on the highway. Easily the best highway fuel economy in its class for a non-hybrid vehicle or a non-electric or Diesel car with automatic transmission.

The LE ECO was definitely my favorite model, since it not only performed beautifully but looked great too—plus who doesn’t love saving dollars at the gas pump!

There are 12 Corolla models to choose from for 2014, since the LE, LE ECO, and S grades offer a base, Plus, and Premium equipment level. Upgrades include 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels, Softex seats, rear disc brakes, integrated fog lamps, and Softex seats.

The option package for the top models will include power moonroof with sliding sunshade and a driver’s convenience package. Available optional features include Smart Key System on front doors and trunk with Push Button lift gate (another favorite feature I’m excited to see more manufacturers are including).

The new Corolla LE ECO with its estimated 42 mpg on the highway runs on an efficient 1.8 liter engine with Valvematic technology and features aerodynamic underbody covers and a color-keyed rear spoiler.

When the new 2014 Toyota Corollas arrive at your local dealer’s showrooms this month, please go by and take a test drive in one of these terrific new Corolla compacts. They have a great deal to offer for an affordable price, which is always welcome news in this economy.
