NEW YORK—Nonprofit organization Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City released its 2011 Giving Guide on Thursday.

“This holiday season give a special gift that will impact lives and help build a stronger NYC,” reads the introductory statement. A personal letter will be sent to the gift recipients.

Suggested packages start at $60 for a “Family Friend” donation that provides a homeless family living in a shelter with diapers and baby clothing through the Department of Homeless Assistance.

“Summer Saint” helps place one youth in a seven-week summer job or educational program for $1,500. The education opportunities “help prevent summer learning loss and provide young people with critical early work experience,” notes the guide.

The NYC School Guardians Initiative plants and maintains gardens at public schools to connect children with their food. Seeds, compost, mulch, plants, and tools to rebuild an under-utilized vegetable garden can be purchased with a donation of $500.

A gift for any amount can be given to any effort listed, with the full donation going toward the selected public program.
