Two Rockford University students perished after a car accident on Interstate 90 in McHenry County, Illinois.

The crash on Wednesday, Feb. 17, included multiple vehicles.

Desiree Wease, 18, was a student at the university while Demonte Wigfall, also 18, was a former student, reported WFIR-TV.

Two other current students, Daijon Davis and Stephen Taylor, were in the vehicle and later treated at the hospital. Taylor remains there while Davis was released.

Wease hailed from Markham while Wigfall hailed from Godfrey and graduated from Alton High School last May. He had transferred from Rockford to Lewis and Clark Community College.

“It’s a tremendous loss,” Alton High athletic director and former football coach Jeff Alderman told The Telegraph. “Demonte was an enthusiastic kid, always smiling. He was well-liked by his teammates and fellow students.”

Police said the car was heading eastbound on the interstate when the driver lost control and crashed into the center median before slamming into a semitrailer.
