Two children were killed and a pregnant woman was left injured after being hit by a driver in New York City on Monday.

The driver then attempted to flee the scene, according to eyewitnesses.

The latest crash leaving pedestrians dead in the city took place around 12:40 p.m. in the Park Slope neighborhood in the Brooklyn Borough.

Pix11 reported that a group of people got off a bus onto the sidewalk when a driver who appeared to be speeding up to make it through a light slammed into them.

The driver then attempted to flee the scene but crashed into another vehicle.

The driver was arrested.

The accident happened at 9th Street and Fifth Avenue, reported ABC7.

Two children were rushed to the hospital but were soon pronounced dead.

Councilman Brad Lander, whose office is at the intersection, said the children were just 2 and 4 years old.

“Truly the worst nightmare imaginable. A 2-year-old and 4-year-old were killed. Their pregnant mom is in critical condition. Driver is in custody. Unimaginably horrible,” he said on Twitter.

Lander said the pregnant woman, who was also hit, is the children’s mother.

She is at the hospital in critical condition.

Eric Adams, the Brooklyn borough president, said via Twitter that he’s monitoring the situation.

“My office is closely monitoring the situation involving a pregnant mother and her two young children who were involved in a horrific incident with a speeding driver at Fifth Avenue and Ninth Street in #ParkSlope. I send my deepest condolences to the victims’ family,” he said.

Two other people were also hit by the car but their condition is unclear.

It appears they didn’t sustain severe injuries because they weren’t taken to the hospital.

Police officers told CBS that they’re checking to see if the driver was under the influence while operating the vehicle.
