A 19-year-old student has been found dead in her room in Florida.

Alyssa Michelle Lewis was found by her family at the University of Central Florida on the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Her family had been unable to reach her, according to Action News Jax.

Investigators including UCF police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office do not believe the death is suspicious at this stage.

Her father told Action News Jax that his daughter had recently been having headaches and vomiting and her mother was going to take her to a doctor.

“Got down there this morning, opened up the door and found her passed away,” Lewis said.

He added: “We'll miss her. It’s just surreal. This is the last thing I expected today.”

University Dean of Students Adrienne Frame told jacksonville.com: “We offer our most sincere sympathies to Alyssa’s family and loved ones, and we will make all of our resources available to support them.”

Lewis was in her fourth semester at UCF.

Her father said he was speaking to the media to quash rumors before they could spread.

“The reason I’m doing this is because there are so many crazy stories out there when a young person passes away. Is it drugs? Is it overdose? Is it suicide?” he told News4Jax. “I mean, she was on top of the world.”
