Footage has surfaced online of a baby girl of 16 months of age swimming in a swimming pool completely unaided and with a proficiency that most adults would be proud of.
The baby, who is still too young to string a series of words together, moves through the water with consummate ease and is clearly at home in the pool as her mother encourages her from off screen. The tiny girl swims facing downward, using her legs and arms to propel her through the water, before rolling onto her back to catch a breath of air and then continuing to paddle face down for a few seconds until she reaches the safety of the pool’s edge.
The video goes on to capture the moment the child swims the full length of the pool for the first time, before climbing out and walking away with the ungainly gate of the small baby that she is, as if what she has just done is completely natural.
The video then rewinds in time and we see footage of the very first time the baby entered a swimming pool with her mother at the tender age of six months. We watch as she takes to the water immediately and without any of the tears or fuss you might expect of a child of her age, even when she is completely submerged by her mother in an attempt to get the child accustomed to the water.
A later clip shows the young girl at the age of fifteen months venturing out into the choppy water of the sea with her mother once again by her side and a caption revealing that this is her first time in the ocean.
