Dozens of coal mining employees will be fired soon, Panther Creek Mining announced.
The company relayed the news about the Kanawha County operations to county commissioners, saying they will be reducing the workforce by 146 people on or around March 11.
The layoffs are expected to be permanent, reported WCHS-TV. Employees will have no bumping rights.
“While some may write this off as just another sign of economic times, that is of no condolence to the employees, their family members and other affected parties,” Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said in a news release.
“Our thoughts and support are with the families and employees of our community.”
