At least 13 people were shot across Chicago on Friday and Saturday morning, according to reports.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that in one incident, paramedics dodged gunfire in a rescue attempt. The medics were not injured in the shooting.
An ambulance was going down Lake Street and medics noticed people crouching behind cover. Paramedics said that as they approached, they realized it was the scene of a shootout.
Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford told the Sun-Times that the medics got out of the way and called for police help.
The shootout left one person with a gunshot wound in the head while another person was shot in the chest. Both were males in their early 20s, Langford said.
A man was also left in critical condition on the West Side after he was shot multiple times in Sheridan Park. Another man was also shot on 1200 block of West Sunnyside Avenue at 8 p.m. on Friday.
Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said the man who is now in critical condition was getting out of his Volkswagen, and people came up to him and shot him, reported the Chicago Tribune.
And in the West Englewood neighborhood, three people were shot at 7 p.m. at the 5900 block of South Wood Street, the Tribune reported.
On Early Saturday, a 23-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in the Roseland neighborhood, reported CBS Chicago. He was standing in his back yard when a male shot him from behind.
Also, in the Gage Park neighborhood, a 19-year-old man was wounded critically in a potential drive-by shooting on Friday evening.
In the Austin neighborhood at South Lavergne Avenue, a male was shot in the ankle.
And at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, a 15-year-old boy who was a purported gang member was shot after an SUV approached him. The teenager was reportedly shouting gang slogans at the SUV.
The Tribune also reported that two people were shot in the legs at around 4 a.m. in Little Village.
The paper said that an “upside down crown -- a gang symbol inverted and meant to show disrespect -- was painted on a dumpster across from where the two were shot. Police said both men were gang members who did not cooperate with investigators.” The Latin Kings, a notorious gang with origins in Chicago, often use a three- or five-pointed crown as one of their symbols.
