The 127 Yard Sale 2013 is the world’s largest--spanning nearly 700 miles across five states. The yard sale derives its name from U.S. Route 127, which spans from Michigan to Alabama.

The yard sale--set up along U.S. 127--started on Thursday and runs until Aug. 4, according to Fox-8. The states included are Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama.

“Every year individuals clean out their closets and stake out their front yards along the Hwy 127 corridor stretching over 690 miles from Addison, Michigan to Gadsden, Alabama. They band together as communities, in groups or as individuals and over a four-day weekend they welcome the onslaught of visitors from the North, South East and West,” reads the yard sale website.

It adds: “It is a mutual exchange of cultures with a common goal; to look, buy and sell!”

The event started in Jamestown, Tenn. in 1987 and later expanded.

This year, according to the website, it starts goes from north of Addison, Michigan to Gadsden, Alabama.

Philip Fennig of Ohio told the Daily Standard that he partakes in the yard sale every year. “We meet people from all over,” he said.
