A Sri Lankan man has been charged after police found more than $10,000 worth of stolen parcels in his suburban Melbourne home.

A joint investigation was launched by Australia Post and Victoria Police after a number of packages went missing in Portsea, Rosebud, Rye, Sorrento and Tootgarook areas between August and October.

On October 21, police raided the 24-year-old’s Mount Waverley home and found 67 packages containing designer shoes, fitness equipment, homewares, kitchen appliances, liquor and toys among other items.

He was charged with criminal theft and theft of mail articles and was bailed to appear at Frankston Magistrates Court on 20 July, 2021.

Police have begun the process of delivering the packages to their intended recipients, including a grandmother who happy to receive a backyard soccer set she purchased for her grandson to use during lockdown.
