At least one person was killed and several others were injured, including a 7-year-old girl, during a shooting at a skate park in Central California.

Police Sgt. Edward Hinojosa told The Associated Press that a 23-year-old man was shot and killed, and the 7-year-old girl was shot several times.

The incident took place at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when a group of at least 50 people gathered after a funeral of a man who died in a car accident, said officials.

Then, according to officials, a man ran up to the crowd and began shooting, reported KGET. Overall, six people were injured.

The young girl was taken to Valley Children’s Hospital in Fresno, authorities said. She was stable as of Thursday morning, they said.

Police said the other victims were listed as stable, according to KGET.

The gunman ran away on foot. His motive at this time is not clear.

Police told KGET that they don’t have a good description of the suspect. The type of gun that was used in the shooting is also not known.

“There was blood everywhere,” a female witness said, according to the Visalia Times-Delta, which added that she didn’t want to provide her name for fear of retaliation.

Neighbors told the news outlet that recently, the neighborhood has experienced “a lot of trouble.” However, they never expected anything like a mass shooting.

“The motive is unknown,” Hinojosa told the Times-Delta. “Suspect information is vague at this point and the entire Investigations Unit has been called out to investigate.”

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Detective Vasquez at 559-685-2300, extension 2142 or Sergeant Richard Payne at 559-685-2300, extension 4265.
