The state is wrestling with an estimated $28 billion budget deficit for the fiscal year starting July 1.

The event brought together leaders from around the world and other governors of U.S. states, including that of Massachusetts and New York.

Gov. Gavin Newsom Announced that $3.3 billion will be made available by July to help people suffering from mental health issues, addictions, or homelessness.

But K-12 schools and community colleges will be safeguarded from the budgetary impact, Gov. Gavin Newsom said.

Though it’s unclear how many officers have left the state in recent years, staffing shortages exist in many departments across California.

A few of the plants have been stolen, but otherwise the strategy seems to be working.

Measures on the voting age, property taxes and marriage equality have qualified. Two more possible initiatives would protect renters and partly repeal Prop. 47.
