HIROSHIMA, Japan—Japanese elites felt what they could only describe as divine grace after attending Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Hiroshima Bunka Gakuen HBG Hall in Hiroshima, Japan on Jan. 2, 2023.

“[Shen Yun] is really awesome, absolutely wonderful. I felt an electric current run through my whole body when the curtain was first opened,” said Mr. Kawamura Shinji, president of a Japanese construction company. “[Shen Yun made me] feel that this year will be a good year.”

Ms. Kametani Hiromi, a Japanese dance instructor, expressed gratitude.

“I’m so touched, it’s great. In such a gloomy time like the present, being able to watch Shen Yun Performing Arts in the new year is the greatest blessing bestowed by divine beings,” she said. “The female dancers dance gracefully and elegantly. I felt God’s love and care for people [from the dances]. It’s so wonderful.”

After attending Shen Yun, Ms. Kametani also said: “I feel this year must be a good year.”

Mr. Watanabe Kensei, a former executive of the Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation Toshiba, said the energy of Shen Yun was something different.

“I felt a strong energy emitted by Shen Yun dancers,” he said. “Today is my best day because each dancer gave me tomorrow’s energy. I really appreciate it!”

Mr. Watanabe said that he first attended Shen Yun in 2020, which gave him a shocking but pleasant feeling that he couldn’t forget. Since then, he looked forward to returning.

“It’s purely perfect!” Mr. Watanabe said. “Thank you very much, Shen Yun!”

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company.
The name Shen Yun translates into “the beauty of divine beings dancing,” and its mission is to revive the authentic beauty and goodness of China before communism, according to Shen Yun’s website.

With Divine Guidance

A Shen Yun performance consists of nearly 20 vignettes, including story-based dances set throughout history, up to the present day.

“I love all [Shen Yun’s] programs, I’m very interested in the development of the stories,” said Mr. Sasaki Tetsu, owner of restaurants and a cooking school. “The performance of [the Chinese instrument] erhu is very expressive, which is great. The soprano’s voice is very bright, which amazed me.”

Mr. Sasaki said that he was impressed with the excellence of all the dancers and musicians. The bright colors and pure beauty of Shen Yun uplifted him and gave him hope. “I’m glad that I attended Shen Yun today,” he said.

“Attending this show, I felt that I was treated as an emperor!” said Mr. Aoki Tatsuhiro, an executive of an auto parts company. “The performance is wonderful.”

Mr. Aoki enjoyed all programs that Shen Yun presented. He shared his understanding of Shen Yun’s dances.

“Everything is under the divine’s control, no matter virtue or vice. With the divine’s guidance, even a wicked person can be educated,” Mr. Aoki said.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through highly-expressive art forms such as classical Chinese dance, original orchestral music performed live, soloists who sing in the bel canto tradition, animated digital backdrops, and more.

Amazing Backdrop

Mr. Mizuno Haruhito, head of a private school, was impressed with the production.

“Shen Yun’s flow was gorgeous, it’s really brilliant,” he said.

Mr. Mizuno enjoyed the animated backdrop, a unique patent of Shen Yun’s.

“The heavenly maidens were flying down [to the stage] from far away [on the backdrop], which surprised me,” Mr. Mizuno said. “Watching it made you feel that you are in a myth. It’s very exciting!”
