Wrong woman buried: During a funeral viewing, a family noticed that the wrong woman was buried in Los Angeles.

A mortuary in Los Angeles said that it mistakenly buried the wrong woman after mixing up two people.

Authorities at Simpson’s Mortuary in Inglewood acknowledged making a mistake after it put the wrong woman in a casket, several days after Evans Davidson, 73, said the woman at the funeral viewing wasn’t his wife, reported NBC Los Angeles.

“I was pretty certain it wasn’t my wife–unless she did some awful changing,” he said, referring to Darlene Davidson, his wife of 51 years.

This prompted the mortuary to initially dispute his claim, saying she looked different because of the embalming process.

Son Eric Haynes said, “I was already torn apart and then…this. It’s unbelievable,” reported CBS Los Angeles

Haynes recalled family members telling mortuary officials that there was something amiss during the funeral viewing. “The mortician, the guy that dresses them, he convinced us that was her,” he added.

Admitting there was a mistake made, mortuary spokesman Reginald Black told CBS: “In this case, there was an error made and we are diligently working with both families to be in resolve.”

Davidson, 82, will now be buried on Wednesday. She died of heart failure, according to KABC television.

“Our main concern is for these people to receive the dignity and respect they deserve, and put the individual to rest. We are not sweeping it under the rug,” a mortuary spokesman said, according to KABC.

Davidson’s family were at the mortuary on Monday along with their attorney to make sure her body was in the casket.
