Two of the classical music scene’s rising stars combine with the ever popular Schubert to create a simply stunning work. The first three Violin Sonatas (written in 1816) demonstrate the clear influence of the First Viennese School, yet in stark contrast Schubert the Romantic composer shines through in the dark and twisting Rondo in B minor and passionate Fantasy in C Major. Intricate and pretty versus lyrical and lushly romantic, it is not surprising that Liszt thought him “the most poetic musician”. United with the sublime and interpretative playing of Tiberghien and Ibragimova, this may be one of the best recordings of these pieces ever made.
