More than half of Britons are against the renaming of the iconic Big Ben clock tower as Elizabeth Tower to mark the Queen’s 60th year of her monarchy, according to a recent poll.
Most, or 80 percent, of Britons have a good opinion of Queen Elizabeth II but 54 percent do not favor renaming Big Ben in her likeness, according to the Angus Reid Public Opinion poll.
The vast majority of poll respondents felt favorably about Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry. Around 59 percent of those polled have a favorable view of Prince Philip and 53 percent have a favorable opinion of Prince Charles. Duchess of Cornwall Camilla’s rating was 33 percent.
Nearly half, or 48 percent, of those polled said they would rather see Prince William take the throne after Queen Elizabeth dies or leaves it, while 33 percent prefer Prince Charles.
In surveying 2,009 adults in the U.K., 58 percent of respondents wanted the country to keep its monarchy while 11 percent would rather have an elected head of state.The Epoch Times publishes in 35 countries and in 19 languages. Subscribe to our e-newsletter.
