SAN JOSE, Calif.—After being told that Shen Yun Performing Arts was “fabulous, fabulous, fabulous” by friends, Martin Rios, a former architect for NASA, said the show met his expectations and more, when he saw the company perform at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday evening, Jan. 5.

Mr. Rios said he was impressed with everything about the performance. “The dancers, the way they dress, everything is fabulous.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, and performs a diversity of classical dance pieces, and ethnic and folk dances from around China.

With three companies that tour simultaneously around the world, the company performs on hundreds of stages. However, it is not able to perform in China where communist ideology opposes traditional Chinese culture.

Mr. Rios also liked the animated backdrops that cover the entire back of the stage, depicting scenery from around China and digitally transporting characters to and from the skies.

“It’s beautiful, the background,” Mr. Rios said.
