Retail expansion is a national business, with designers, brands, and merchants lining up to take the United States by storm! From New York to Los Angeles, with major stops in between, retailers are criss-crossing the country, and attracting international brands like never before.
In Southern California, Scoop has come west to 216 26th St. in Brentwood. Roger Vivier has debuted at South Coast Plaza, its first West Coast location. Cleobella’s clothing and accessories collection has found a home at 16792 14th St. in Sunset Beach. Philip Lim plans a second shop in Los Angeles, joining his Robertson Boulevard boutique.
Isabel Marant will debut in the region at 8454 Melrose Place, not far from where Kiki de Montparnasse has relocated, 8481 Melrose Place. Dash will open at 8420 Melrose Ave. Not far away, Apt2B is selling its furnishings at 8654 Melrose Ave. in May. JLM’s bridal couture has opened at 352 N. Robertson.
Topshop is coming to The Grove this winter. Malin + Goetz’s third U.S. store has opened at 238 N. Larchmont Blvd. in Hancock Park. Farther afield, Trina Turk has opened at 891 N. Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs. Uniqlo will open somewhere in the city this fall. St. Pucchi Couture brings its bridal wear from Dallas to 8647 Sunset Blvd. (Sunset Plaza) this summer. Rosie Pope’s maternity wear comes east from New York to 1528 Montana Ave. in Santa Monica. PJ Paul & Joe offers more affordable menswear at 138 S. Robertson Blvd. in the fall.
Equinox has opened a gym at 13455 Maxella Ave. in Marina del Rey. Dylan’s Candy Bar’s sweet treats are coming to the Farmers Market. Construction is under way on the renovation of the Glendale Galleria. Taberna Arros y Vi, a Spanish restaurant from Michael Cardenas, will open at 1403 2nd St. in Santa Monica this fall. Killer Cafe serves breakfast and lunch at 4213 Admiralty Way in Marina del Rey. Umami Burger replaces Nate ‘n Al at The Lakes at Thousand Oaks.
New York’s mainstay Two Boots pizzeria opens its second Los Angeles outpost at 828 S. Broadway. Construction has begun on the Courtyard by Marriott/Marriott Residence Inn at 930 S. Georgia St., with an opening planned for 2014.
In Chicagoland, Buccellati will open at 58-68 E. Oak St. Wolford’s second city boutique has come to 520 N. Michigan Ave. Comrade Cycles not only sells but repairs your bicycles at 1908 W. Chicago Ave. Athleta’s first area store has opened at 3415 N. Southport Ave. in Lake View. The upcoming Shops at Fremont has signed Anthropologie and Williams-Sonoma. Spex luxury eyewear has expanded to another location at 1407 N. Milwaukee Ave.
Wal-Mart will open a Neighborhood Market on North Broadway in East Lakeview. The 175-years-young C.D. Peacock will open a store at Old Orchard, which just greeted the area’s second Henri Bendel. CB, a unit of CityBlue, brings cutting edge apparel and denim to 662 N. Western Ave. in Lake Forest. Menswear shop Independence debuted at 47 E. Oak St.
Coach is renovating its 625 N. Michigan Ave. store for a summertime opening. Rebecca Taylor will come to the city next year, and Ippolita is scouting a location for a store or two in the next three years. BHLDN serves the city’s brides at 8 E. Walton St. Find your next swimsuit at Everything But Water, newly arrived at Oak Brook Center.
S.A. Elite, a boutique format from Sports Authority, joins Water Tower Place this month. Lanvin is coming to Oak St. Look for Christian Louboutin to open a shop by year-end. Burberry will debut in the fall at 633 N. Michigan Ave.
Keep your fingers crossed for the development of a retail complex near the United Center, planned to have 260,000 square feet of restaurants, bars and a retail store, and for a mixed-use project in Naperville with 33,000 square feet of ground-level retail space as well as offices. Preppy apparel brand J. McLaughlin’s third metro shop has opened at 53 S. Washington St., Hinsdale. Five Guys Burgers’ latest will be at 1146 S. Wabash. The Moderno restaurant has opened in the former Rosebud in Highland Park. Work has resumed at the Staybridge Suites hotel at Huron & LaSalle.
In Dallas, coming soon to NorthPark Center are Officine Panerai, Make Up For Ever, Kiehl’s, Seasons 52, Rolex, Industrie Denim, and Omega, joining newcomer Helen Ficalora. Galleria Dallas has welcomed Carlo Pazolini, Cotton On, Crocs, H&M, and Oro Gold Cosmetics, among others, with Monsoon and Rolex soon to open. Total Wine comes to the Lone Star State at 9350 N. Central Expressway this summer; eatZi’s is opening momentarily at 1319 Highway 114 in Grapevine, and in an upcoming development in Plano by fall 2013. Trader Joe’s is opening two units in the metro area, on Lower Greenville Ave. and in Plano. Gourmet pie and dessert maker Tootie Pie Gourmet Cafe will open at The Village at Allen in suburban Allen, Texas.
In South Florida, along with the previously mentioned Chicago unit, Rebecca Taylor will open in Bal Harbour next year. Published reports say retailers Burberry, Celine, DeBeers, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi, Hermes, Bulgari, Cartier, Tom Ford, and Zegna are coming to the Design District. Chef Philippe Ruiz will open Restaurant Du Cap at 660 Brickell Ave. Hyde, the celebrity-hangout nightclub from Hollywood, comes east to the American Airlines Arena. Probably not coincidentally, Hyde owner Sam Nazarian is opening the SLS Hotel South Beach hotel shortly. Construction has begun on Miami’s first Cambria Suites hotel, located near Miami International Airport.
And in my beloved New York City, Equipment will open its first U.S. store on Wooster Street. Dalaga will hop across the East River from Brooklyn to 85 Kenmare St. Coming a slightly greater distance is Japanese lingerie designer Bradelis, which opened stores at 211 Elizabeth St., 66 Madison Ave., and 135-20 39th Ave. in Flushing.
Armani Junior’s first U.S. store will be at 1223 Madison Ave. Angelo Galasso, creator of bespoke Italian menswear, has come to the Plaza Hotel. Down & Quilt is relocating one block west to 527 Amsterdam Ave. Dior Homme has opened at 133 Greene St. Monique Lhuillier will open this summer on East 71st Street. Nordstrom Rack reportedly is looking at 1095 Sixth Ave. for its next unit. Chloe’s Soho home will be at 93 Greene St. Matt Bernson has opened at 20 Harrison St. Sandro is coming uptown to 986 Madison Ave. Nearby, Rebecca Taylor will open next month at 980 Madison. The Baccarat Hotel will shine at 20 W. 53rd St. in 2014.
