As the Christmas holidays approach, New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts is gearing up to launch its 2024 touring season. The first performance will kick off on Dec. 22 in Nagoya, Japan.
Returning this year with an all-new set of programs, Shen Yun’s eight equally sized companies—each with a live orchestra—are set to tour around the world. Encompassing over 200 cities across more than 20 countries and spanning five continents, this season marks the company’s most extensive tour yet.
Shen Yun was established in 2006 and is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company.
What a Performance Is Like
The performances are comprised of a series of short pieces that take its audience on a journey through the dynasties and across the vast regions of China. Using classical Chinese, folk, and ethnic dances, as well as solo musical performances, the artists tell legends from ancient times and stories taken from the modern day.Daniel Herman, the former Minister of Culture and Honorary Ambassador of Czech, said after a 2016 performance that Shen Yun “embodies a profound power to embrace the world, delivering immense hope—it is a truly heavenly experience.” He recommended that everyone see the show.
The Tours
After the season’s opening performance in Nagoya, Japan, Shen Yun will grace the stages of Houston, Texas; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Florence, Italy. By the end of December, all eight Shen Yun companies will be performing simultaneously. In the upcoming months, Shen Yun will be visiting 43 states in the United States and four provinces in Canada. In addition to the company’s return to Brazil, it’s scheduled to return to the Carribbean and make its first appearance in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The scale of Shen Yun’s 2024 European tour is also poised to surpass previous years. To the delight of many fans, there will be shows available spanning over 50 cities in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and other European countries. Audiences can also anticipate Shen Yun’s performances in 23 cities across Japan, Australia, and Taiwan.
In the 17 years since the company’s establishment, audiences worldwide have raved about the beauty of Shen Yun, stating that it is both a feast for the eyes and an inspiration for the soul—a truly refreshing artistic experience that awakens long-forgotten memories.
“[The performance] was reminding me of something I’ve known all along— a conversation with my heart... so magical, so real,” said Bajro Gusinac, the Chairman of a consulting firm in Sweden, after attending a show last season. “So real, so special, yet so powerful and kind!”
