LAS VEGAS—For many years, Frank and Haley Hatch wanted to attend Shen Yun Performing Arts, but tickets were always sold out. On March 3, they decided to travel to Las Vegas just to see a show at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts.

“It was absolutely fabulous. My degree is in world history, and I’m really into ancient China. So that’s why [Shen Yun] is something I’ve wanted to see my whole life. I absolutely loved it. It was breathtaking,” Mrs. Hatch exclaimed.

“The colors, the costumes, the [stories] going back from the ancient time to what [China] is dealing with now— everything was stunning. The only words I can think of to describe the show are stunning, vibrant, and beautiful.”

The world’s leading classical Chinese dance and music company, Shen Yun Performing Arts was founded in 2006 by a group of leading Chinese artists who had fled the persecution of the communist party.
Prior to the regime’s violent takeoverand its spread of atheism, China was known as the Celestial Empire—a country deeply rooted in spirituality and the belief in the divine.

Since Shen Yun’s establishment, the New York-based artists have made it their mission to bring back the glory of China’s lost civilization.

Mrs. Hatch loved the traditional values of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance that were demonstrated by the artists, stating that it was “absolutely beautiful.”

“[Portraying] the divine above with the kindness and purity that they have is just so beautiful. Thank you,” she expressed.

Moreover, Mrs. Hatch loved the dancers’ interpretation of a scene from one of China’s four classic novels, “Journey to the West.”

“How they bring [the audience] to the peach fairy gardens—I absolutely loved it. I used to watch all the little cartoons as a little girl. So, seeing that in live action was just stunning.”

Mr. Hatch chimed in that they will for sure be back next year.

He was especially moved by Shen Yun’s modern-day story dance shedding light on the ongoing persecution of Falun Dafa—a peaceful meditation practice based in Buddhist traditions—by the Chinese Communist Party.

“I can’t wait to come back next year. I hope I’m able to get [the tickets] soon enough because it’s always sold out. Everything was breathtaking. The artist director is a genius,” he said, adding that he will be purchasing both the Chinese and English versions of “Zhuan Falun,” the principal text of Falun Gong practitioners.

“I can’t wait to read it,” Mr. Hatch expressed.

“For our library, we want to get the Chinese one too. I think it’s so interesting to just have it as a part of our library. I travel a lot for work, so I’m always on an airplane. This is really good for [reading on] the plane.”

Last but not least, Mrs. Hatch said she wished she could hug all the artists.

“They’re so beautiful, and their performance was beyond amazing. It was absolutely gorgeous,” she added.

“I was crying during some of these parts because you can feel [the heart] from them—it was beautiful.”
