PALERMO, Italy—Orchestra director Gaetano Colajanni attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Teatro Massimo on March 5. Colajanni found everything about Shen Yun fascinating.
I have to say that I was very fascinated, both by the dancers, that is, from their professionalism, really very perfect, and then also by the orchestra, because I saw how they interpreted the music, which is original, of course,” he said.

The stage sets and Shen Yun’s connection to the audience also fascinated Colajanni. “I am really very fascinated, not to mention the sets, this is new, [and this connection] that there is between the audience, the people, the actors’ in short, this is really a new discipline. Very nice. Very nice. Congratulations really. I hope it spreads all over the world, because it is a very interesting thing.”

“I have to say I liked all of [pieces] really. It was new to me and I was very excited, very fascinated by it,” he said.

Colajanni liked the combination of Chinese and Western instruments in the orchestra. “Very nice, very nice. Yes, I have heard these two particular Chinese instruments, which pair very well with the orchestra. There is a particular expression with these instruments,” and he noted that the musicians “are not all Chinese; some are, let’s say American maybe, but they have an exceptional preparation. Excellent. Very good.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun was founded in 2006 by leading Chinese artists and quickly became the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture.
He approved bringing back traditional culture everywhere. “Well, it’s a very nice, very beautiful thing. We should try to do it that way, too. I mean, congratulations. I hope it’s spread all over the world, really,” Colajanni said.

To the dancers and musicians, he sent his best wishes. “The artists are really perfect. I mean, there’s nothing to say, both from the musical point of view and from the artistic point of view. In short, they are really very good. Congratulations.”

Italian Stage Manager Says Shen Yun ‘Gets Inside Your Heart’

Ludovico Rajata, stage manager at the Teatro Massimo of Palermo, has seen Shen Yun twice. “I’ve had the honor of seeing it last year, of collaborating with you, and working with the theater. I recommend it a lot,” he said.

“When you did the show again, I was very happy because, as I said to them and to you, we are struck by what this show makes you feel under any form, from dance, to martial arts, to the lights, the colors, the meanings, the poetry, and among these, forms of art that very few people can nowadays use,” he said.

Rajata commended Shen Yun based on his extensive stage managing experience. “As a stage manager, and as an assistant director for a theater for 30 years, I see a lot of shows, but this form of show gets inside your heart,” he said.
He was very moved by Shen Yun’s tenor. “I was moved by the tenor, with the poetry that has been told. I don’t know if it’s an ancient text. I don’t know it, but the scene of the prison is impressive,” he said.

Rajata expressed his gratitude to Shen Yun and said, “Tomorrow I will send a message to your company. Thanks again for everything. Thanks.”
