SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain—Journalist Ibon Pérez said he felt purified by the colors and music of Shen Yun Performing Arts.
“It’s order, it’s harmony, it’s relaxation, it’s colors, choreographies—it’s incredible!” he said at the Kursaal Congress Centre and Auditorium in San Sebastian, Spain on Jan. 31.
Shen Yun also features a one-of-a-kind orchestra that blends traditional Chinese instruments into a classical Western orchestra and colorful, detailed costumes that are true to traditional aesthetics and styles of ancient China.
Mr. Pérez reported that he needed a massage because of his contractures, but after seeing Shen Yun, he said, “I just came out very relaxed.”
“I have purified myself … with the music, the colors,” he said, “I found it incredible!”
Ancient Chinese music, medicine, calligraphy, clothing, and language were believed to have been brought down from the heavens. In the past, artists looked to the divine for inspiration and cultivated virtue in order to create uplifting art.
“It is like entering another world and getting to know that unknown China that is forbidden to us,” said Mr. Pérez.
As a journalist, Mr. Pérez commented on how important it was to present the traditions of ancient Chinese culture on the world’s stage.
“We cannot access the current China and even less the China of 5,000 years ago,” he said.
“It is a shame that until now it has not been seen,” he added, “and it is a tremendous joy that it is being recovered.”
