Phoenix is one city in the Western United States with sunny weather almost year round. If you’re heading to Phoenix for vacation, use this guide to help you plan your trip ahead of time.

What to Do in Phoenix

The iconic Route 66 runs through Phoenix and is a must see when you are in the area. When traveling along the route, visitors will catch a glimpse of many iconic small towns with retro charm including Oatman and Hackberry, which can make you feel like you’re taking a trip back in time to America’s past.

For golf enthusiasts, Phoenix is emerging as one of the top golf destinations in the country. If relaxation and pampering are more your style, the city is loaded with spas where you can enjoy all sorts of therapeutic treatments from massages and facials, to manicures and pedicures.

Phoenix is also fast becoming a cultural mecca, with museums like Pueblo Grande Museum and Cultural Park, the Arizona Science Center and the Heard Museum. Visitors can also visit the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Taliesin West in the Sonoran Desert outside Scottsdale.

If you’re a baseball fan, then take yourself to a ball game at Chase Field. Watch the Diamondback’s play a game during baseball season, where, if the weather permits, the stadium roof is open so that you can stargaze between innings.

When to Visit

The best time to visit Phoenix is between November and April. Temperatures are comfortable at this time of the year, running in the 60, 70s, and 80s with clear blue skies. While the weather is ideal, it is also Phoenix’s busy season when all of America’s snowbirds fly south for the winter. Expect to pay higher hotel rates and airfare during this time of the year.

If you visit during other times of the year, keep in mind that Phoenix is a desert town. Its temperatures can be extremely hot during the day and then cool off significantly at night. Check weather forecasts before heading into town so you can pack accordingly.

Transportation

Once you arrive in Phoenix, there are several options for getting around town. You always have the option to rent a vehicle; however, the city does offer public transportation in the form of the Valley Metro Bus System. The METRO Light Rail system is also available, which runs between Downtown Phoenix and Tempe’s university district. Taxis, limousines, and shuttle services are also available for ground transportation.

Where to Stay

Hotels and resorts are abundant in the Phoenix area and range from low-budget options to luxury hotels, and everything in between. You also have the option of renting a condo, townhouse, or single-family residence that Phoenix residents make available for rent on Airbnb, typically on a weekly or monthly basis. Either way, visitors should choose their location according to the things they plan to see and do while they’re in town and the type of transportation they choose.

Phoenix is a sunny culturally diverse city which offers exciting things to do and see for tourists of any age and of any budget size.
