More than a decade ago, Charles Brockman III’s dad accompanied him to his first day of kindergarten—and he has a picture to prove it. This year, Charles had another picture taken—his dad accompanying him on his first day of college.
The freshman from Plano, Texas, posted the two pictures on Twitter, side by side, with some words of gratitude: “From the first day of kindergarten to college move in. Thank you dad.”
His simple message moved many in the online audience to tears.
“I’m not crying. I’m not crying. Parents are the best,” Tweeted Cassandra Jaramillo, reporter at Dallas News.
Walking Charles to school is a family tradition at the Brockmans. His parents have even walked him to school his entire senior year in high school.
Now, as they were walking down the halls of Mississippi State University, the son listened to some life advice from his dad.
“He’s been giving me advice all my life leading up to this.. he tells me to be smart, represent the family well, go to class, and work hard. I plan on following all of that and more to make my family proud,” Charles III told FOX 5.
His dad started to grow his hair when Charles was born. The length difference is clearly notable in the two pictures.
After Charles III posted the pictures on Twitter, the dad, Charles Brockman Jr., replied: “Love you Son! Proud of you!”
His mother, Sherry Brockman, is also active on Twitter. “I am SUPER proud of both of these men in my life!!! It is wonderful to have some real positivity in this world!!!!” she replied to her son’s post.
Charles III is already an accomplished athlete. He ranked second in the nation in 300 meters hurdles and third in the nation in 400 meters hurdles this year.
His father is also his coach.
“I’m so thankful to my parents for always being here & taking me to every meet. I couldn’t do it w/o them. But now it’s time for college,” Charles Tweeted on July 31.
