The Yankees hit a whopping five home runs in a 9–6 victory over the last place Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday at Camden Yards.

The Yankees had won nine straight games against Baltimore, including a dominating 5–1 victory Monday night in which Andy Pettitte pitched an almost flawless game, retiring his first 20 batters.

On this night, the Yankees would yet again test Baltimore with another tough pitcher in right-hander A.J. Burnett. Burnett has had great success facing teams from the AL East, especially against Baltimore. He holds a 9–1 record, including four straight wins against the O’s.

But despite his past success, Burnett had been struggling lately and was looking to snap a three-game losing streak.

The Yankees got it going in the second after Jorge Posada singled and was driven home by Robinson Cano, giving the Yankees a 2–1 lead. For Cano, it was his 22nd career home run.

The Yankees went up 3–1 at the top of the third after Jorge Posada nailed a pitch off of Hernandez to deep center for a solo home run.

In the bottom of the third, the Orioles did some damage. Nick Markakis got on base with a shallow hit to left, and then stole second base. Then DH Nolan Reimold walked. With two men on base, veteran third baseman Melvin Mora drove a Burnett pitch for a two run double to tie the game.

The Yankees took at 5–3 lead at the top of the fifth inning after Jorge Posada took a changeup pitch from Hernandez and hit a deep shot over the left field wall, driving in Mark Teixeira. Felix Pie gave chase to no avail. For Posada, it was his second home run of the game.

The O’s answered in the bottom of the fifth after first baseman Luke Scott ripped an A.J. Burnett pitch over the right field fence for a solo home run. For Scott, it was his 21st home run of the year.

The Yankees took it to the Orioles reliever Chris Ray in the top of the sixth with hits from Melky Cabrera and Derek Jeter. With both Yankee runners on base, Alex Rodriguez singled to shallow center and Cabrera scored, tying the game at 6–6.

In the top the seventh, the Yankees started to run away with the game. Robinson Cano, an Oriole killer, got on base with a double into left field. Right after his hit, the Yankees got their fourth and fifth home runs of the game, back-to-back.

Nick Swisher hit a deep ball to right-center field and was followed immediately by Eric Hinkse who hit one to deep left center.

For the Yankees, this game was another chance to showcase their offensive firepower as they scored in every inning but two, the first and the fourth.

New York has now won 22 of their last 27 games, with an impressive 11–3 record versus Baltimore this season, including nine straight wins.

They lead the AL East and remain 6.5 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox who also won Tuesday night after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays.
