NEW YORK—The World Science Fair brought hundreds of families to Washington Square Park on Sunday afternoon.

Many took advantage of the sunny day to learn about science during the kid-friendly, interactive event.

Yvette Hudson, a mother of two, brought her daughters, Nubia and Seba to the park for a fun introduction to the scientific community. Hudson said her girls are home-schooled, so the event gave them a free way to learn about science.

Families had a chance to participate in several hands-on scientific stations featuring games, exhibits, and experiments.

Each station was themed with a different scientific topic, bringing something for everyone. Kids had the chance to plant their own edible seeds and make paper helicopters at Discovery Labs, learn the science behind bubbles at the New York Hall of Science, and see live animals from the Philadelphia Zoo on Wheels.

Hudson and her daughters took the opportunity to get their faces painted at one of the local booths. The face painters offered their art in several themes including astronomy, ecology, and biology—giving each person a unique painting.

This is the Science Fair’s second year. Last year, an estimated 120,000 people came to enjoy the more than 44 events.
