Woman Who Lost Leg in Crash to Take on Empire State Building Climb
Thirteen years ago, Tara Butcher’s life changed forever after she was struck by a car going 72 miles per hour on the freeway.
Butcher, who was 22 years old at the time of the crash, was left with one leg shattered, and lost the other below the knee.
The terrible accident could have left her depressed and disheartened with life—but the effect was quite the opposite. She has run the NYC Marathon, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Whitney.
Now, she plans to climb up the Empire State Building.
In the clip above, she talks about how the accident has “in a way been a gift.”
“I started running on it, then I was like, what else can I do? I was hooked and that’s really how I got through everything, was through athletics,” she told Fox 5.
